PEXGOL™ pipes are manufactured using a high density polyethylene (PE) crosslinking process. The crosslinked PE is a thermo-elastic material with a 3-D molecular structure that has very high dimensional stability and excellent wear resistant properties. The crosslinking process  enhances the improved mechanical properties of the pipe such as:

Backfill Applications in Mines

A typical backfill application feeds back the excavated material (which is mixed with cement) into the mine to use the material for support. The feedback system includes vertical and horizontal pipes, and it is powered by the internal pressure in the vertical pipe columns.

Typical problems in steel pipes are severe abrasion and corrosion, while high pressure causes difficulties in plastic pipe systems. Consequently, common solutions for backfill applications are PE-lined steel pipes or pipes that withstand very high pressure. . But over the long term, due to the need to frequently replace or repair the pipes used, these are expensive solutions. Golan offers PEXGOL™ high pressure, wear resistant pipes, providing a durable, more cost-effective option to meet the challenges of abrasion, corrosion, and high internal pipe pressure.

When higher pressure is involved and PEX-lined steel pipes are the solution, , Golan supplies PEXGOL™ liners in the required diameters and lengths.

Dead Sea Dredging Operations

Constant crystallization of salt on the bottom of the evaporation ponds of the Dead Sea Works caused a rise in the water level, threatening the harvesting of minerals from the Dead Sea as well as posing a problem for nearby resort hotels. Dredging operations faced serious difficulties since the existing pipeline needed to be replaced every three months, due to severe wear-related failures.

Pipe Materials Tried Prior to PEXGOL™

  • Rubber pipes: damaged by weather conditions and suffered from abrasion; expensive maintenance and replacement.
  • Steel pipes: suffered from both internal and external corrosion; pipeline not flexible and salt accumulated on the pipe.
  • HDPE pipes: short lifetime due to low resistance to high temperatures and wear.

PEXGOL™ Solution

Thousands of meters of PEXGOL™ pipes demonstrated unmatched wear resistance after two decades of exposure to harsh conditions. PEXGOL™ was clearly the best solution for the client's situation.

Dead Sea Water and Sewage Transport - Harsh Environment Wear

The photo illustrates a unique project where two PEXGOL™ wear resistant pipelines cross the Dead Sea. The pipes move with the waves but the waves do not damage them, even when the pipes are hit with rocks during bad weather and storms. This project was realized in spite of recommendations of international experts, who were not yet familiar with the distinctive and reliable properties of PEXGOL™ pipes.

Remarkable Recovery

During a test, PEXGOL™ wear resistant pipe is run over by a 36-ton Caterpillar, showing excellent recovery of original properties and resistance to operation related wear.

PEXGOL™ wear resistant pipe withstands strong floods, which have caused significant movement of the rocks annually during the past 20 years, since the installation of the pipe. The high induced stresses from the flooding are additional to the powerful localized stress caused by the surrounding rocks.

The PEXGOL™ wear resistant pipes in the photos below replaced PE pipes for feeding lines to fish cages for salmon breeding in Chile. In addition to the dramatic improvement in wear resistance, the client noted that using PEXGOL™ pipes eliminated kinking near the metal fix points, which had been a problem when using PE pipes.
