Pexgol Ensures Water Supply at Mexican Combined-Cycle Power Plant

The Challenge

Kiewit Corp., through its subsidiary Kimex SA de CV, faced a critical requirement during the construction of the CCC Tuxpan Phase 1 combined-cycle power plant in Mexico. To initiate testing and commissioning, the new facility needed to be supplied with boiler feedwater—a fluid requiring high purity and specific properties.

The challenge: the site under construction lacked an operational water treatment system, and any solution had to be immediate, highly reliable, and compatible with Kiewit’s rigorous safety protocols. Additionally, the piping had to withstand conditions typical of an active construction environment.

The Solution

Pexgol proved to be the ideal choice. In just one day, 600 meters of 4” SDR 11 Pexgol pipe were installed using only standard on-site machinery and tools, with no need for specialized equipment. The very next day, the system was operational, enabling the project team to start equipment testing without delay.

The line transported boiler feedwater at 3 bar of pressure and a flow rate of 115 m³/h, operating smoothly within the site’s ambient temperature range of 16°C to 31°C.

A key success factor was Kiewit’s validation of internal safety protocols. Although using coiled piping was new to their team, the installation was incident-free, demonstrating Pexgol’s safety and reliability even in demanding construction environments.

Key Benefits:

  • Rapid installation without specialized equipment
  • Flexible and impact-resistant material, ideal for active worksites
  • Excellent chemical and corrosion resistance
  • Lightweight and easy to handle
  • Full compliance with international safety protocols

Fittings Used:

  • Flared End / Stub End
  • Loose Flange
  • Fixpoint Bridge
