Streamlining Water Supply in Highway Construction

The Challenge

The construction companies Chediack and Ceosa are undertaking a significant project in Argentina – building a dual-track highway that connects Mendoza to San Juan. As they embarked on the construction of the second section, they faced a specific challenge. They had to provide water to the cooperative responsible for the water distribution in that sector while constructing the highway. This required running a pipeline underneath the highway. The existing pipeline system, made of rubber and PVC, presented an interference under the embankment of the highway.

Furthermore, the challenge was compounded by the need to use a material that allowed for a continuous pipeline without dependencies on joints, given the considerable length of 188 meters (about 616 feet).

Pexgol Solution

Pexgol offered an apt solution to Chediack and Ceosa’s unique challenge with their 160mm PE-X pipe. Pexgol’s pipeline, owing to its ability to be shipped in long coils, allowed for a full-length installation without the need for joints. This attribute turned out to be particularly beneficial given the significant length required for this project.
Loose flanges and MAS joints were used in the installation process, which was quick and efficient. Once the trenching was completed, the Pexgol pipe was transported to the site, unrolled, lowered, and distributed into the trench. The trench was then backfilled with the excavated soil, compacted, and the remaining cover and compaction completed. The consortium responsible handled the connections to
the existing network and subsequent commissioning.

Opting for Pexgol’s pipeline system provided a multitude of benefits. Its quick installation time, lightweight and easy-to-handle properties, ability to provide long sections, and transportation in rolls helped streamline the water supply infrastructure in the highway construction project. The practicality and efficiency of Pexgol’s pipeline solution made it a valuable resource in the construction of the highway between Mendoza and San Juan.
